Five canadian chorales

Commissioned by the Manitoba Band Association for their 2018 Level One Band Festival. This set of five chorales are based off of ‘Canadian’ themes (some folksong, some original) and are intended as warm-ups for bands of all skill levels.

ENDLESS SKY

This rhythmically-driven, energetic piece for developing bands is structured as an arc, with a bird powerfully rising into flight as the central musical image. Endless Sky was premiered on February 21, 2024 by Katy Abraham and the École Seven Oaks Middle School Grade 8 Band at the 2024 Manitoba Band Association Concert Band Festival in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Autumn Down A Maple Lane was the winner of the 2020 Howard Cable Memorial Prize in Composition awarded by the Canadian Band Association, and was premiered by Dr. Wendy McCallum and the West Valley Winds in Canmore, Alberta on March 2, 2019.

FAROESE FOLK SONGS

Faroese Folks Songs is an arrangement of two folk songs coming from the Faroe Islands, a small archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean located between Iceland, the United Kingdom, and Norway. The original arrangement was commissioned for two clarinets and piano in 2022 by clarinetists Jenny Maclay and Catherine Wood and was rescored for concert band in 2023.

Faroese Folks Songs was premiered on May 29, 2024 by the Lord Selkirk School Division Junior Symphonic Band under the direction of conductor, Kenley Kristofferson.
