chimera concerto

For Clarinet, Soprano Sax, Horn, Violin, Cello, Double Bass, and Piano

For Clarinet and Piano

A chimera can be used to describe any sort of abhorrent thrown-together creation, much like this composition, sewn together from musical ideas found in my personal library. However, the name of chimera is only secondary. The primary reason for writing this piece came from a dream I had while I was in a deep, dark funk.

Chimera Concerto was premiered at the 2016 Brandon University New Music Festival and was commissioned by the BU New Music Ensemble under the direction of Megumi Masaki. A separate arrangement exists for clarinet and piano, premiered at the 2017 Brandon University Clarinet Festival.
